When Can I Come to Campus?
With the recent increase in cases and based upon reports to the College, many individuals have questioned when it is safe for them to return to campus after an illness, close contact, or suspected and/or confirmed exposure to COVID-19. It is the College’s hope that this document will help clarify any questions and provide clear guidance on the expectations of the college in certain situations. Garrett College COVID-19 Exposure Action Plan
Our COVID-19 Exposure Action Plan provides a clear process and specific action steps that Garrett College (GC) will follow when the College is made aware of confirmed or possible COVID-19 case(s) from a student, faculty/staff, or member of the community who visited the campus and whose presence might compromise the public health of the College. Symptoms
According to the CDC, reported illnesses have ranged from mild symptoms to severe illness and death for confirmed COVID-19 cases.
The following symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure:
- Fever
- Cough
- Shortness of breath

Prevention
Our first priority is the health and safety of the campus community. It is important that you protect yourself and others against respiratory viruses by taking the following precautions:
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available.
- Cover your mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- If you are sick, stay home from work or school.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Practice good health habits.

Vaccinations
COVID vaccines are safe and effective with over 338 million doses given in the United States. There are currently three different COVID vaccines available. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are two doses, with the second doses received 21-28 days after the first dose. The Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine is one dose. In general, people are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or two weeks after the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
